What is the Fake Instagram Comment Generator?

A browser-based generator that produces Instagram-style feed card screenshots with realistic post image, caption, like count, multiple commenter rows, action icons (heart, comment, paper plane, bookmark), and the iconic timestamp footer. Output downloads as a PNG via html2canvas (loaded lazily on Download). Use it for memes, marketing pitches, classroom material, and creative projects — never to impersonate real accounts or spread disinformation. For a cross-platform prank kit, pair it with our Fake TikTok — same one-click realism on a different OS.

Key Features

  • Authentic Instagram feed-card layout: header, post image, action row, likes, caption, comments
  • Verified blue badge toggle (the 8-point starburst with checkmark)
  • Auto-highlighted #hashtags and @mentions in IG-blue across caption and comments
  • Custom poster avatar via URL or gradient initial circle (IG brand colors)
  • Post image via URL, or a colorful gradient placeholder when omitted
  • Multiple editable comments — handle, text, time, like count per row
  • Light and dark mode toggle to match IG appearance
  • PNG export at retina 2x via lazy-loaded html2canvas
  • Bakes an optional PARODY watermark into the exported PNG so shared images stay clearly labeled as fake

How to Use

  1. Set the poster handle and toggle the verified badge
  2. Paste an avatar URL or leave blank for an IG gradient initial circle
  3. Paste a post image URL or leave blank for a placeholder gradient
  4. Write a caption — #hashtags and @mentions auto-color in IG blue
  5. Set the like count and timestamp footer (e.g. '3 HOURS AGO')
  6. Add or edit comments with handle, text, time and like count
  7. Toggle dark mode and click Download PNG to export

Frequently Asked Questions

Is making fake Instagram screenshots legal?

For parody, satire, fiction and personal entertainment, fake Instagram screenshots are generally legal in most countries. They become illegal when used to defraud, defame a real person, impersonate someone causing harm, fabricate evidence in court, harass an individual, or violate Instagram's terms of service. Several jurisdictions criminalize the use of fabricated social-media posts in disinformation campaigns. Always label parody clearly and never share content that could be mistaken for a real Instagram post by a third party.

Does this tool use the real Instagram API?

No. The generator is 100% client-side HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It does not call Instagram's API, does not log in to Instagram, and does not fetch real account data. The output is a styled DOM element exported as PNG by html2canvas. This is intentional — Instagram's API has strict rate limits and terms; this tool side-steps both by being a pure visual mockup that never communicates with Meta's servers.

What does the blue verified badge mean?

On Instagram, the blue verified badge originally indicated that an account had been confirmed as the authentic presence of a notable public figure, celebrity, brand or organization. Since 2023, Meta Verified offers paid verification for personal accounts and businesses that prove identity, with the same blue checkmark. The badge does not measure trustworthiness or quality, only identity confirmation — and on this generator it is purely cosmetic.

Why does html2canvas only load when I click Download?

html2canvas is about 200 KB minified, unnecessary weight for visitors who only want to preview the post. We lazy-load it on first Download click via a cached loadScript helper, so initial page load stays fast and Lighthouse Performance scores remain high. After the first load the browser caches the library, so subsequent exports on this or any other tool that uses it are instant.

How accurate is the Instagram visual style?

The card closely mirrors IG's current feed layout: 32px gradient avatar, bold handle with verified badge, post image filling card width, action row of heart/comment/paper-plane (left) and bookmark (right), bold like count, caption with handle prefix and auto-colored hashtags/mentions, comment list with handle/text/time/likes/reply line, and the small-caps uppercase timestamp footer. Exact glyphs are proprietary; we use Font Awesome equivalents and the closest open colors — the result is convincing in compressed social-media JPEGs.

Can I use real photos and emojis?

Yes. Paste any publicly accessible image URL for the avatar and the post image; for the export PNG to include them, the source server must send a permissive CORS header. Emojis render via your operating system's emoji font and are captured by html2canvas. Hashtags and mentions in the caption or comments auto-color in IG blue. Non-Latin scripts (Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Chinese, Korean) render correctly if your system has appropriate font fallbacks.

What is the legal risk of impersonating a real Instagram account?

High. Defamation lawsuits, harassment charges, identity-fraud allegations, emotional-distress claims, and Instagram's own DMCA + impersonation policies all apply. Even content labeled as parody has resulted in legal action when realistic enough to deceive a reasonable third party — especially when shared without clear watermarks and screenshotted across platforms. Always use clearly fictional handles, watermark the image as parody, and never share a fake post of a public figure on a politically or commercially sensitive topic.

Can I add multiple comments and replies?

Yes — click 'Add Comment' to insert a new commenter row, then edit the handle, comment text, time-ago label and like count for each. Nested replies are not supported in this version; you can simulate a reply by including '@username' at the start of a comment — it will auto-color in IG blue. There is no hard cap on the number of comments, although very long lists will produce a tall PNG.

Is it free, and do I need to log in or install anything?

It is completely free with no login, no account, no sign-up and nothing to install. The generator is a single web page that runs entirely in your browser — open it, customize the post, and click Download. There are no watermarks forced on the output beyond the optional parody label you control, no usage limits, and no paywall. Because everything happens client-side, it also keeps working after the page has loaded even on a flaky connection.

Are my uploaded photos sent to a server, or kept private?

Your photos never leave your device. When you upload a profile photo or post image, the tool reads it locally with the browser's FileReader API and converts it to an in-memory data URL — it is never uploaded to our servers or anyone else's. The PNG export is also generated locally by html2canvas in your browser. Nothing about your images, captions or comments is transmitted, logged or stored, which makes this a genuinely private way to mock up a post.

How do I add an emoji, a verified badge, or a parody watermark?

For emojis, type or paste them directly into the caption or comment fields — they render via your operating system's emoji font and are captured in the PNG. For the verified badge, set 'Verified' to 'Yes (Blue)' to show the blue checkmark beside the handle. For the parody watermark, keep the 'Add parody watermark' switch on (it is on by default), type your own label (e.g. PARODY, FAKE, NOT REAL) and choose Corner, Center or Tiled — the watermark is baked into the downloaded PNG so it travels with the shared image. To add more comments, click 'Add Comment' for each new commenter row.
