Blur Image Pro - Advanced Multi-Area Blur Tool

Blur Image Pro is a powerful, feature-rich image blur tool that lets you blur multiple areas simultaneously with precision. Choose from Gaussian blur for smooth effects or pixelate/mosaic for censorship. Select areas using rectangles, ellipses, or free-form brush painting. Advanced features include undo/redo history, invert selection (blur everything except selected areas), and real-time preview. Perfect for protecting privacy, hiding faces, blurring license plates, censoring sensitive information, and creating professional-looking images. All processing happens locally in your browser - your images never leave your device.

How do I blur multiple areas at once?

Simply draw multiple selections on the canvas! Each new rectangle, ellipse, or brush stroke adds a new blur area. All areas are displayed with different colors and numbered for easy identification. You can add as many areas as needed, and they will all be blurred when you click Apply Blur.

What's the difference between Gaussian Blur, Pixelate and Solid Redaction?

Gaussian Blur creates a smooth, natural-looking blur ideal for backgrounds and artistic effects. Pixelate (mosaic) divides the area into blocks of solid color. Solid Redaction paints a flat black, white or custom color over the selection, completely destroying the underlying pixels. Choose Gaussian for aesthetics, Pixelate for visible censorship, and Solid Redaction when the content must be permanently and irreversibly removed.

Is blur or pixelation reversible - can blurred faces be recovered?

Potentially yes. Low-radius Gaussian blur can sometimes be reversed (deconvolved) and pixelation can be brute-forced or de-pixelated by determined adversaries, especially when the original content is predictable like text or known faces. If recovery would be harmful, do not rely on blur or pixelate. Use the Solid Redaction option, which fills the area with an opaque color and discards the original pixels - there is nothing left to recover.

Does this tool remove EXIF or GPS metadata from the photo?

Yes, as a side effect. The image is redrawn onto an HTML canvas and re-encoded, so EXIF, GPS coordinates and other metadata in the original file are not carried into the downloaded result. The output contains only pixel data plus standard image headers, which is important when publishing photos that should not leak the location or device they were taken with.

Which method is safe for legal, GDPR or compliance redaction?

Use Solid Redaction (the blackout/whiteout fill) for any legal, GDPR/PII, journalistic or document redaction that will be published. Blur and pixelation only obscure pixels and can be partially recovered, so they are not considered safe for irreversible redaction. A solid opaque fill is the recognized standard because it overwrites the protected region entirely, leaving no recoverable trace.

How does the Brush mode work?

Brush mode lets you paint directly on the image to select areas for blurring. This is perfect for irregular shapes like faces, text, or any area that doesn't fit a rectangle or ellipse. Adjust the brush size using the slider, then paint over the areas you want to blur. Each brush stroke is saved as a separate selection that can be undone.

What does Invert Selection do?

Invert Selection reverses the blur effect - instead of blurring the selected areas, it blurs everything EXCEPT those areas. This is useful when you want to highlight a subject while blurring the background, or when it's easier to select what you want to keep sharp rather than what you want to blur.

Can I undo mistakes?

Yes! The tool includes full undo/redo functionality. Click the Undo button or press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) to remove the last selection. Use Redo or Ctrl+Shift+Z to restore it. This works for all selection types - rectangles, ellipses, and brush strokes.

What is Live Preview?

Live Preview shows you the blur effect in real-time as you draw selections. When enabled, you can see exactly how the final result will look before clicking Apply Blur. This helps you adjust intensity and placement. Note that Live Preview may be slower on large images or with many selections.

Is my data private and secure?

Absolutely! All image processing happens entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. Your images are never uploaded to any server. No data is collected, stored, or transmitted. This ensures complete privacy, which is especially important when blurring sensitive information like faces, documents, or personal data.

What image formats are supported?

The tool supports all common image formats including JPEG/JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF. The output maintains your original format. For best quality with transparent backgrounds, use PNG format. Images up to 4096x4096 pixels are processed at full resolution.

Can I use this on mobile devices?

Yes! The tool is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. Touch gestures are supported for all selection modes - tap and drag to draw rectangles/ellipses, or paint with your finger in brush mode. The interface adapts to smaller screens automatically.

How do I get the best blur results?

For privacy/censorship, use Pixelate effect with intensity 20-35 for clear obscuration. For artistic blur, use Gaussian with intensity 10-25. When blurring faces, use ellipse shape for natural coverage. For text or documents, use rectangle shape. Enable Live Preview to fine-tune before applying.
