Word to PDF Converter - Convert Documents Online

Convert Microsoft Word documents (.docx) to PDF format directly in your browser. This tool processes files locally on your device for complete privacy - your documents are never uploaded to any server.

What file formats are supported?

This tool supports .docx files (Microsoft Word 2007 and later). The older .doc format is not supported due to its proprietary binary structure. If you have a .doc file, please open it in Microsoft Word and save it as .docx first.

How does the conversion work?

The tool reads your Word document directly in the browser using JavaScript. It extracts the text, formatting, images, and tables, then renders them into a PDF document. The conversion happens entirely on your device.

Are my documents secure?

Yes, completely! Your documents never leave your device. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. No data is uploaded to any server, making this tool 100% private and secure.

What formatting is preserved?

The tool preserves most common formatting including:
- Text styles (bold, italic, underline)
- Headings and paragraphs
- Lists (bulleted and numbered)
- Tables
- Images
- Basic alignment

Complex features like headers/footers, page numbers, and advanced layouts may not be fully preserved.

What are the file size limits?

Since processing happens in your browser, practical limits depend on your device's memory. Documents up to 10-20MB typically work well. Very large documents with many images may take longer to process.

Why are my headers, footers and page numbers missing from the PDF?

DOCX page-layout features (headers, footers, page numbers, section breaks, footnotes) are stored as Word-specific XML rather than inline content. The browser converter renders the inline document flow only. For pixel-perfect conversion including headers/footers, use Microsoft Word's built-in Save as PDF or LibreOffice headless mode.

How do I convert multiple DOCX files in one batch?

This tool converts one file at a time to keep memory usage low. For bulk conversion of dozens of files, use LibreOffice CLI (libreoffice --headless --convert-to pdf *.docx) or Pandoc (pandoc -o out.pdf in.docx) which can script entire folders. Cloud APIs like CloudConvert handle parallel jobs.

What happens to embedded fonts and special characters?

Text is rasterized to an image during rendering, so the characters you see are baked into the PDF as pixels rather than mapped to a PDF font table. That means accented Latin, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic characters are preserved faithfully when the 'Embed Unicode font' option is on - no glyph substitution or mojibake. Word-specific fonts (Calibri, Cambria, Aptos) fall back to a close serif, but the visible shapes stay correct.

Are page size, orientation and margins print-accurate?

Yes. The converter computes the printable content box from your chosen page size (A4, Letter, A3, Legal) and orientation, then subtracts the margin from both sides before laying out the document. So a 10mm margin on Letter portrait lays content across exactly 195.9mm (215.9mm minus 2x10mm), matching what a printer expects. Right-aligned text, tables and images fill the printable area without overflowing past the margin or shrinking, which is essential for print-ready contracts and resumes.

Is the .doc (Word 97-2003 binary) format supported?

No. Legacy .doc uses a proprietary OLE2 Compound Document format from 1997 that requires reverse-engineered parsers. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and Save As .docx (XML-based, an open standard since 2007), then convert the .docx here. Most modern documents are already .docx.
