What is a factor?

A factor, in mathematics, is a number that can be evenly divided into another number without leaving a remainder. In other words, if you multiply a factor by another number, the result is the original number. How to calculate factor?

1. Start with a positive integer based on the number for which you want to calculate the factors.
2. Find all integers from 1 to that number.
3. Check each number to see if it's a factor of the original number. This means checking if the original number is divisible by that number without leaving a remainder. If the original number is divisible by the number, then that number is a factor.
4. Record all the factors you find.
5. Repeat the process for all numbers from 1 to the original number.
6. The result will be the set of factors of the original number.

Example

• The factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12 because each of these numbers can be multiplied by 12 to give the result of 12 (1 * 12 = 12, 2 * 6 = 12, 3 * 4 = 12).
• The factors of 7 are 1 and 7 because those are the only whole numbers that can evenly divide 7 without leaving a remainder.
